well, someone signed my guestbook about one of my recent entries. It went something like this. i just want to let you know that it sickens me that you are SOOOOOO affended that people would say the pledge in schools get the fuck over it we don't anymore some people are mad some aren't, quit your bitchen..it's not that big of a deal Now, since this person left no contact information (I think I may know who it is) I don't know anything about them, or thier beliefs. But I do have a few things to say. Dear "you wouldn't care" (that's how they signed it) yes, I am "affended" (that's offended, you ignorant fuck. if you're going to insult me, do it right) that the public schools would even consider leading students in an activity that has a very obvious statement of religion. If you would have read my entry carefully, you would have noticed that the part of the pledge that "affends" me is the "one nation, under god". Just for the record, I am an athiest (not that it matters for this issue) and am very sensitive to the idea of people shoving religion down my throat. The goverment realized this fact long long ago when the country was founded. They came to America to escape religious persecution, and so when they wrote the bill of rights, they gave us the freedom of religion, and also stated that the government would "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion". They did this so that no religion could be discriminated against by any government organization. Now I'm not sure how you interpret "one nation, under god", but it seems a pretty clear statement of god exsisting. As an athiest, yes this offends me. Now, why it "sickens" you that I wouldn't want my children (if I ever have them) getting religion shoved down their throat when they're young and impressionable, I don't know. Perhaps you think I'm some sort of anti-patriot? Quite the opposite. Any government that would protect my religious beliefs (or lack thereof) is good in my book. And besides, at a time like this, we can all use a little more patriotism. If you want to get them to remove that line, then I'd be MORE than happy to advocate saying the pledge in schools. So I'm sorry if I "affended" you. But I imagine that since you probably don't really understand many of the issues these days (you certainly didn't understand this one) you get offended pretty often. So if you really want to debate this one, sign my guestbook again, leave some contact information, and we can talk. Until then, don't come insulting me in my diary unless you know what the hell you're talking about.
